How to Replace Jeep Wrangler Headlights?

Replacing a headlight on a Jeep Wrangler is a straightforward process that can be done with basic tools. Below is a step-by-step guide applicable to Jeep Wrangler models from 2007 to 2017, although the process is quite similar for other models as well.

Tools Required

- T15 Torx driver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Panel pry tool (optional but helpful)

Steps to Replace a Jeep Wrangler Headlight

1. Open the Hood

Begin by opening the hood of your Jeep Wrangler to access the headlight assembly.

2. Remove the Front Grille

- Locate the six plastic retainer clips along the top of the grille. Use a flathead screwdriver or a panel pry tool to carefully pop up the center of each clip and then remove the entire clip.

- Once all clips are removed, gently pull the grille forward to release the metal spring clips at the bottom. You may need to use a bit of force, but be careful not to damage the grille.

3. Disconnect the Turn Signal Lights (Optional)

- If you want to completely remove the grille, you will need to disconnect the turn signal lights. This involves sliding back the red locking tab on the connector and then pressing the release tab to disconnect the wiring.

4. Remove the Headlight Housing

- Use a T15 Torx driver to remove the four screws securing the headlight bezel or bracket. These screws are located around the perimeter of the headlight.

- Once the screws are removed, carefully pull the headlight housing out.

5. Replace the Headlight Bulb

- Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the bulb by sliding back the red locking tab and pressing the release tab.

- Twist the old bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the housing.

- Insert the new bulb into the housing and twist it clockwise to secure it.

- Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the red locking tab is pushed back into place.

6. Reassemble the Headlight and Grille

- Reattach the headlight housing by securing it with the Torx screws.

- Align the grille with the metal clips and push it back into place.

- Reinsert the plastic retainer clips along the top of the grille.

7. Test the Headlights

- Before closing the hood, turn on the headlights to ensure they are working correctly. Adjust the beam alignment if necessary using the adjustment screws on the headlight housing.

This process should take about 30 minutes and can be done by most DIY enthusiasts without professional assistance. If you're upgrading to LED or HID headlights, ensure they are compatible with your vehicle and follow any additional installation instructions provided by the manufacturer.
